I had Android (S21) and switched to iPhone 15 Pro Max and I have been unable to connect to the desktop app. I have literally tried everything. Got the solution to stop the program from updating automatically when it opens ! You have to go to system preferences then software update, then Advanced and uncheck the checkbox check for updates.
I have an alternate solution until WhatsApp addresses this bug for iPhone 15. It always appears error and reverts back to first page that have to click get started. It worked for a bit but then it crashed again so I decided to use Opera’s Whatsapp sidebar feature since the browser is open anyway. Works a treat and doesn’t use as much CPU/resources as the app so depending on the browser you’re using, I’d rather go for this option. Works well with macOS Catalina. You can now download an older version of whatsapp and when you install it it will no longer automatically download the update.
